Sustainable Practises
The fabrics we incorporate into your collections are purchased from Carvico and ECONYL® in Italy and REPREVE® in the USA. They are produced from salvaged fishing nets, plastic bottles, and post-consumer waste, certified by GRS and U-Trust®. Using recycled fabrics over new ones reduces carbon emissions by up to 80%. Even recycled, they are as soft & durable as any new fabrics, provide UV 50+ protection, and resist saltwater and chlorine. To know more, google Kelly Slater, the 12-time world surfing champion who played a key role in turning ocean waste into sustainable swimwear fabrics.

How recycled fabrics are created
ECONYL®, an Italian company, produces recycled yarns from discarded fishing nets and plastic bottles. These yarns are then purchased by Carvico to create high-quality, flexible fabrics for swimwear. By blending ECONYL® with materials like Suplex or Extra Life Lycra, the resulting fabric offers excellent stretch and a super soft feel.

What are Ghosts Nets?
“Ghost nets” are abandoned fishing nets that continue to harm marine life, entangling and killing various species, from fish to large mammals. These nets can persist in oceans for up to 5,000 years, causing significant ecological damage. Alarmingly, fishing nets make up about 10% of ocean waste, underscoring the importance of recycling initiatives like ECONYL®’s to address this environmental issue.
Preserving Our Oceans And Biodiversity
Each year, eight million tons of waste and 640,000 tons of fishing nets are dumped into our oceans. If this trend continues, our oceans could hold more garbage than fish by 2050 — a problem we must tackle now. By partnering with Swimwear Bali, you’re making a meaningful step towards a cleaner ocean and a more sustainable future.
